New Delhi: A thick blanket of fog enveloped New Delhi and its neighboring areas early Wednesday morning, causing near-zero visibility and significant disruptions to daily life and transportation. The cold wave gripping northern India has intensified, with temperatures in the capital dipping to 10°C around 5:30 am.
Visibility dropped drastically, particularly at Palam airport, where zero visibility was reported from 4:30 am onward. The dense fog posed serious challenges to both rail and air travel, with the weather office predicting additional fog during the evening and nighttime hours, further exacerbating the situation.
Although flight operations at Delhi Airport continued, passengers were urged to stay informed about their travel plans. Flights not equipped with CAT III systems faced the possibility of delays or disruptions. Airport authorities issued an advisory, recommending passengers contact their respective airlines for real-time updates on flight schedules.
“Landings and take-offs are ongoing, but non-CAT III-compliant flights may experience delays. Passengers are advised to consult their airlines for updated information. We regret any inconvenience caused,” the Delhi Airport authority announced early Wednesday.
As cold wave conditions persist, residents of Delhi are bracing for continued disruptions caused by the fog, while officials work to mitigate its impact on travel and daily routines.
