The United Democratic Front (UDF) has announced that it will observe May 20—the fourth anniversary of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government—as a Black Day. The announcement was made by UDF Convener Adoor Prakash, who stated that the opposition will conduct black flag protests across local levels in the state as a symbolic act against what they term as the government’s “anti-people policies.”
UDF plans to boycott all celebratory events associated with the anniversary, except those related to inauguration of development projects in various constituencies, where MPs, MLAs, and local body representatives will take part, acknowledging their role in these initiatives. According to Prakash, these are collective achievements and not the sole credit of the state government.
The UDF also intends to launch alternative propaganda campaigns to highlight what they claim is the real condition of the state under the LDF rule. Criticizing the government further, Adoor Prakash remarked that Kerala has been reduced to a place where mothers live in fear for their sons who fall prey to the drug menace. He argued that this grim scenario is the only real legacy of Pinarayi Vijayan’s nine years of governance.
Through these symbolic protests and public awareness programs, the UDF aims to expose what it sees as the failures and negative impacts of the LDF administration on the people of Kerala.
