Kalladikode (Palakkad): A devastating accident occurred late Tuesday night on the Palakkad-Kozhikode National Highway near Ayyappankavu, Kalladikode, claiming the lives of five individuals. The collision, which took place around 11 pm, involved a car traveling from Palakkad and a lorry heading in the opposite direction toward Coimbatore. The car, upon impact, became trapped under the lorry, severely damaging the vehicle and leaving its passengers fatally injured.
The victims have been identified as K K Vijesh (35) from Kongad Mannanthera, Ramesh (31) from Veendappara, Vishnu (30) from Velliyanthode, and Muhammad Afsal (17) from Manikasseri Estate, with one person yet to be named. Three of the car’s occupants died instantly, while the remaining two were rushed to the district hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries in the emergency ward.
Authorities believe that the car may have skidded and lost control due to the heavy rain, leading to the head-on collision with the lorry. The accident caused significant traffic delays on the national highway, with traffic blocked for over an hour as a crane was brought in to clear the wreckage. Local residents were the first to respond, attempting rescue efforts before police, fire, and highway authorities arrived on the scene.
The bodies have been shifted to the Palakkad District Hospital mortuary, and investigations are ongoing to gather further details about the accident.
