The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to resume on May 17 following a temporary suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The much-anticipated restart will begin with a high-voltage clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
During the interruption, several international players had returned to their home countries as a safety precaution. Among them were key members of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad. However, recent reports from national media confirm that SRH skipper Pat Cummins and Australian opener Travis Head will be returning to India to play the remainder of the league. Despite SRH’s slim chances of making it to the playoffs, both players have expressed their willingness to rejoin and support the team.
The status of other foreign SRH players—such as Heinrich Klaasen, Ishaan Malinga, Kamindu Mendis, and Wiaan Mulder—remains uncertain, as the franchise has not issued an official update on their return. The ongoing geopolitical tensions have cast doubt over the participation of many overseas players across teams. In a related development, Rajasthan Royals’ bowling coach Shane Bond and middle-order hitter Shimron Hetmyer have already opted out of the rest of the season.
