Several people were injured after a blast on a railway track derailed five bogies of a train in Pakistan’s southwestern Sindh province on Tuesday. The injured passengers of the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express, which has been attacked multiple times this year, were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
The train was en route to Quetta when the explosion occurred. A rescue operation is underway at the site, officials said. Initial rescue operations have confirmed multiple injuries, though the full extent of the damage and casualties remains unclear.
The Jafar Express, which runs between Quetta and Peshawar, has been repeatedly targeted in recent months, with the attack in March being the worst. Last month, a blast on the railway track in the Dasht area of Mastung, Balochistan, destroyed one coach of the Jaffar Express and derailed six others, leaving 12 passengers injured.
In August, four people were injured when an explosive device derailed six coaches of the train in the Mastung district. The same month, the pilot engine sent for clearance came under gunfire near Kolpur. The separatist Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the latter attack.
In June 2025, another explosion in the Jacobabad district of Sindh targeted the train, derailing four coaches. No casualties were reported in that attack. In March, the train was hijacked by militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) between Pehro Kunri and Mushkaf in Balochistan.
They sabotaged the tracks with explosives, derailed coaches, opened fire, and took hostages. The train was carrying around 400 passengers at the time of the attack. Hours later, 104 passengers were rescued by security forces in an operation that left 16 Baloch militants dead.
