WhatsApp to Introduce Video and Music Audio Sharing Feature for Android Users

WhatsApp is reportedly in the process of developing a new feature that will enable users to share video and music audio during calls on the messaging platform. Initially observed in development for iOS, the feature is now making its way to Android, allowing users to enjoy synchronized video and music playback while on a call. The functionality is expected to be available during video calls with active screen sharing, but it won’t be supported in audio-only calls. Feature tracker WABetaInfo revealed that the feature is still in development, and even users enrolled in the beta program won’t be able to access it in the current version of WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.26.18.

The move to introduce video and music audio sharing aligns WhatsApp with a similar feature introduced by Apple called SharePlay in 2021. SharePlay enables users to watch videos, listen to music, and play games together during FaceTime calls. The cross-platform development of this feature suggests that WhatsApp users on both Android and iOS will eventually be able to leverage this synchronized media sharing option. However, details about compatibility with various music and video apps remain unclear, leaving users anticipating its official release for a more immersive and interactive calling experience.
