Prithviraj Sukumaran Demands Investigation and Accountability Following Hema Committee Report

Actor Criticizes AMMA’s Failure and Calls for Exemplary Punishment

Kochi: In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Hema Committee report, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations against members of the Malayalam film industry. Speaking to the media in Kochi, Prithviraj stated, “If there are allegations against fellow actors, they must be investigated, and there should be exemplary punishment if they are found guilty.” He also highlighted that those making false accusations should face consequences if the accused are cleared after the investigation.

Prithviraj expressed disappointment with AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), stating that the organization has failed in its responsibilities. “I am not shocked by the findings of the Hema Committee report,” he said, recalling his involvement in providing a statement during the committee’s formation. He stressed that the report should be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.

He also touched upon the legal aspects, noting that while the legal system protects the identities of victims, it is up to the government to decide whether to release the names of the accused. Prithviraj concluded by advocating for female representation within AMMA’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of gender inclusivity in addressing such issues. Prithviraj also noted that while the indian law requires the protection of victims’ identities, it does not mandate the same for the accused.
