Elon Musk’s xAI Launches Grok AI Chatbot for X Premium+ Subscribers in the US

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, has introduced its AI chatbot called Grok on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Designed as a competitor to ChatGPT, Grok offers a witty conversational tone and is exclusively available to Premium+ subscribers of X. Unlike other chatbots, Grok, developed by xAI, incorporates real-time knowledge from the X platform and fearlessly addresses sensitive or controversial queries, even using profanity.

X’s recent announcement revealed the rollout of Grok to Premium+ subscribers on Web, iOS, and Android over the coming week. Initially accessible to users in the US, the release timeline for a broader audience was not specified. Users can find Grok on the side menu of the Web version of X and the updated X app on iOS and Android. Additionally, it can be added to the bottom menu for easy access through Premium > Preferences > Extras > Custom Navigation in the app.

The duration of Premium+ subscription determines the early access to Grok, encouraging long-term subscribers to engage with the AI chatbot sooner. X users have already begun sharing their interactions with Grok, testing its capabilities with requests such as roasting Musk based on X posts. Musk’s xAI, positioned as a “maximum truth-seeking AI,” emphasizes its real-time advantage via the X platform compared to competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft.

Grok, unveiled as a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Bard, and Microsoft’s Copilot, operates with the Grok-1 large language model, having undergone multiple iterations. A Premium+ subscription, granting access to Grok, is priced at Rs. 13,600 annually or Rs. 1,300 monthly for the Web. On iOS, the annual plan costs Rs. 22,900, and the monthly plan is priced at Rs. 2,299.
